London's Big Ben
London has plenty of landmarks, but Big Ben is the most famous and most
often seen of all of them. Standing tall as the world's premier clock & bell
tower, Big Ben serves as a constant reminder that Britain survived the onslaught
of WWII and thrives today as one of Europe's strongest democracies.
The four 23-foot square clock dials keep excellent time due to the precise
regulation of the pendulum using none other than a simple stack of coins! The
Commons Chamber of the Houses Of Parliament was destroyed in a German air
raid during WWII, but Big Ben came through it unscathed - she never stopped
keeping the time and sounding her bell...a calming influence during the
troubling days of the bombing of London.
Today, Big Ben still stands as tall and proud as ever, beloved by Britons and
visitors alike. Although it isn't open to the public, Big Ben is still a must
see during a London vacation. All you have to do is ride by the Houses Of
Parliament and you'll see this beautiful and historic landmark!
