Waterfall On The Blue Ridge Parkway
As you drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway, you'll see lots of beautiful scenery and
all kinds of things that God has placed along its path for our enjoyment. Today's
picture features a prime example: a spectacular waterfall at the Rough Ridge
Overlook (located near milepost 303).
The Blue Ridge Mountains appear high and dry from a distance, but as you drive
along the Parkway you'll see water in almost every nook and cranny. In
addition to the lakes, there are also numerous streams - complete with
waterfalls in many places where the streams rush down the steep mountain sides!
The waterfall pictured here was a real beauty. It had rained almost all day the
day before so there was plenty of water cascading across the rocks. I followed a
narrow trail a few dozen yards from the parking area up to the bridge spanning
the stream. As I stood on the bridge I was treated to a spectacular view of the
waterfall from the top down with the mountain valley off in the distance. It was
well worth the climb!
There are so many amazing things to see on the Blue Ridge Parkway that you
simply cannot experience them all in one day. If you're planning a Parkway
adventure of your own, you really owe it to yourself to take your time, stop at
every overlook and just enjoy the beautiful vistas.
