Scenic Lake Morat

Along with Lake Biel and Lake Neuchâtel, beautiful Lake Morat
is located in the scenic "3 Lakes" area of western Switzerland's Jura region.
Lake Morat is the smallest of the three lakes, and it takes its name from the
small town of Morat sitting on its southern shore.
During periods of heavy rainfall, Lake Morat and Lake Neuchâtel together play a
major role in controlling the large volume of runoff water rushing down from the
Alps. Without these buffer lakes, many of Switzerland's densely populated areas
would flood on a regular basis.
The Lake Morat area is a popular tourist destination offering watersports,
hiking, biking, camping and many more outdoor activities. The region is also famous
for its magnificent vineyards and fine wines. And if you're a history buff,
you'll find numerous monuments to several medieval battles that took place in
the area.
