Mom's Lucifer Lilies
Mom has always been a flower lover, and she has always spent much of her
free time (what little she had of it) tending her flower garden - pruning,
cultivating and weeding to make sure she had the prettiest flowers in the
neighborhood. But lately she has been following her doctor's advice and doing
less work outdoors.
It's hard for mom to give up working in her flower beds, but she does realize
that she needs to cut back on the time she spends on them and be a bit more
judicious in the types of tasks she performs. She accepts the reality of the
situation, and her typical smile and good humor continue to dominate her
attitude.
An excellent case-in-point is the small sign she placed above these beautiful Lucifer
Lilies the other day. It reads "FREE WEEDS - PICK THEM ALL".
Actually, mom is still able to do most of her gardening tasks - in fact, she
gets around much better than most 78 year olds. She just needs to limit the time
she works at it and refrain from climbing the bank at the side of her lawn.
After all, she still enjoys getting her hands dirty and watching things grow.
As long as she's able to get around outdoors, mom will be piddling around in her
beloved flowers, and that's just the way those of us who love her so dearly want
it. We want her to keep showing us that beautiful smile while enjoying the rest
of her life doing the things she enjoys...hopefully for many, many years.
