The Malpass Family Performing At The Lincoln Theatre

Last night, Cheria and I attended the August taping of the
nationally syndicated
Song Of
The Mountains concert series at the beautiful and historic
Lincoln Theatre in Marion, Virginia. We know that every time we have
the opportunity to attend one of these wonderful shows we're going
to see some of the very best Bluegrass and Old-Time performers in
the country, but last night's show was simply incredible.
The show was kicked off by a rousing performance by The Lost &
Found, one of the most popular and enduring Bluegrass bands in
the business, and things didn't slow down a bit throughout the
evening. One outstanding group after another took the Lincoln stage,
and by the time the show came to end about three hours later,
everyone in the audience was exhausted from applauding so much!
One of these amazing groups was The Malpass Family from Goldsboro,
North Carolina. Christopher Malpass (wearing the hat) is one of
those singers whose golden voice can transform any song into a work
of art. A lover of traditional Country Music, Christopher brings to
life many wonderful old hits by Johnny Cash and several other
Country legends - most notably Hank William's, Sr.
When Christopher puts on that white hat and breaks into "Your
Cheatin' Heart" or "Hey, Good Lookin'", you'll think Hank
has come back to life and jumped up on the stage. His mastery of
Hank's soulful inflections and yodeling style are the most authentic
you'll ever hear. There's simply no way to adequately describe just how
well this young man imitates his larger-than-life hero!
But as entertaining as Christopher is, The Malpass Family is
certainly no one man show! Christopher's younger brother Taylor is a
fine singer in his own right, and his flawless mandolin and electric
guitar work round out the uniquely authentic traditional Country sound the Malpasses are famous for. Dad Chris on bass and mom Andrea singing
harmony round out The Malpass Family, one of the most entertaining
acts to ever set foot on any stage!
