The Martha Washington Inn At Night
Click photo to enlarge
Today's picture features a nighttime view of Abingdon,
Virginia's
Martha Washington Inn. "The Martha" is a spectacular piece of
19th century architecture that's pleasing to the eye at any time of
day, but at night she really sparkles!
I find it very interesting how things can look so different after
the sun goes down. The artificial lighting highlights areas that are
untouched by sunlight, and the scene is quite different when a
structure is viewed against a dark background instead of a light,
blue sky. Darkness really does put a new face on a familiar scene.
Cheria and I decided to take our cameras for a walk through
Old Abingdon
last night, and I snapped this photo around 9:30. We also took a few
nighttime shots of the
Barter Theater
and the Abingdon Town Hall. They all turned out pretty good I
suppose, but we still have a ways to go when it comes to nighttime
photography. The good thing is, it's a lot of fun "practicing"
together!
