Southwestern Virginia Countryside
The state of Virginia boasts
a wide array of breathtaking scenery. The beaches of the tidewater section, the
farms and forests of the piedmont and the hills & "hollers" of the
Appalachian Mountains all have
plenty of magnificent scenery awaiting all who choose to visit our wonderful
Commonwealth. But my personal favorite has to be the countryside vistas of
southwestern Virginia.
West of Lynchburg are thousands of rolling hills covered with deciduous trees
that burst into colorful mosaics every fall. Valleys and "hollers"
slope downward as if pointing to companion streams and rivers that range from
lazy to rushing. And mile after mile of trails snake through the region which
makes enjoying the scenery a breeze.
Today's picture, taken just outside the Abingdon,
Virginia town limits, offers a glimpse into the type of landscapes you can
expect to encounter during a southwestern Virginia vacation. I love the way the
early morning sun filters through the trees as if God is personally checking out
his creations. I'm glad I'm lucky enough to live in such a beautiful part of
such a beautiful state.
