Olivia Goes To 4-H Camp

The Southwest Virginia 4-H Educational Center

Our granddaughter Olivia gets to go to 4-H Camp this summer at Abingdon, Virginia's Southwest Virginia 4-H Educational Center. This is her very first "going to camp" experience and Cheria and I hope she really enjoys it. The mission of 4-H Camp is to help children learn valuable interpersonal, leadership and life skills while having a great time doing all kinds of fun and exciting activities.

When Olivia signed up to attend this year's 4-H camp, she had the opportunity to fill out a "wish list" of up to six activities that she was interested in taking part in with the understanding that she would be selected to participate in three of them. As it turned out she got her first three choices: "Basic Horsemanship", "CNN" (a basic videography course) and "Kids In The Kitchen" (a cooking class). "Kids In The Kitchen" wasn't actually one of Olivia's choices - it was her mom's - but I'm sure she'll enjoy it nonetheless.

I think Olivia and the other campers will benefit greatly from 4-H Camp, not just by learning a few new skills and having tons of fun, but also by interacting with the other children and hopefully making some new friends. Hopefully, "going to camp" will allow Olivia to experience many things that are new to her while generating an intense desire to learn and grow as a person.
