A.P. Carter Birthplace Cabin
Like many of his Appalachian Mountain contemporaries, A.P. Carter of the
original Carter Family came from humble beginnings. He and all of his siblings
were born in an old log cabin that was built around the middle of the 19th
century.
This primitive and run-down Scott County, Va home held the fascination of A.P.'s
descendants for years. May 2004 saw the wonderful culmination of a year-long
project by Janette
Carter and her family to restore the cabin and move it, piece-by-piece, to
its current location on the property of the famous Carter
Family Fold in Hilton's Va.
The result is the authentic restored cabin that you see in today's photo! The
next time you're planning to visit the Carter Fold, get there a couple of hours
early so you can visit the museum and the A.P. Carter Birthplace Cabin before
the show begins!
