Carlene Carter At The Carter Family Fold
Today's picture features Carlene Carter (left) and her cousin Lorrie performing
at the 31st annual Carter Family Memorial Festival & Craft Show, an event
hosted by Janette Carter at the Carter Family Fold as a way to honor the memory of Carter Family members and close family friends who have passed on.
Carlene and Lorrie are granddaughters of Maybelle Carter, one of the original
members of the legendary Carter Family that helped give birth to the Country
music genre at the famous "Bristol Sessions" of 1927.
They are very
proud of the legacy left behind by "Mother Maybelle", A.P. and Sara
Carter, and they're doing their part to help keep that legacy and the Carter
Family music alive at the Carter
Family Fold and around the world. They just finished a two-week run of the play "Wildwood Flowers", a
musical focused on the life of June Carter Cash (Carlene's mother - Lorrie is
the daughter of June's sister Anita).
Arguably the most influential group in the history of music, the original Carter
Family gathered, wrote and recorded numerous songs that are still popular the
better part of a century later including "Will The Circle Be Unbroken",
"Keep On The Sunny Side" and "Wildwood Flower".
You can hear these and other great Carter Family
songs performed live when you visit the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons,
Virginia.
