Antique Mowing Machine & Hay Rake

Back in February, Cheria and I took advantage of a mild winter
day to go for a leisurely walk down the
Virginia Creeper Trail. We started at the trail head on Green
Spring Road in
Abingdon and walked past the duck pond and horse farms, enjoying
the beautiful scenery as we ambled by.
One of the most interesting things we saw that day was a pair of
antique farm implements sitting in the edge of a field. The old
steel-wheeled mowing machine and hay rake had probably not been used
in at least half a century, but it looked like they had just been
parked there to await spring and the next hay season. There's no
telling exactly how much hay they helped make during their working
years, but now they're just enjoying a peaceful retirement beside
the beautiful Creeper Trail.
Well, a few days ago we decided to take a late evening walk down the
trail. It had been a hot, humid day in the Abingdon area and we knew
it would probably be nice and cool under the trees that would be
hovering over us. After we had walked a mile or so, it began to get rather dark under the thick canopy of the trees so we turned around
and began walking back to our car.
I hadn't really paid any attention to the hay rake and mowing
machine on the trip down the trail, but as we approached them on the
return trip I couldn't help but notice how the setting sun had
turned them into a striking silhouette. Now I'm not the best when it
comes to low-light photography, but I snapped off a few shots anyway
and hoped for the best...and the result is the "Picture Of The Day"!
