Today's picture features a Giant Sequoia tree in Sequoia National
Forest. The
Giant Sequoia is the world's largest tree species as you can probably tell by
comparing the size of the tree above to the car sitting in front of it.
The Giant Sequoias grow as long as they live, and they sure do live a long time
- the Sherman Tree, the largest tree in the world, is estimated to be
up to 2,700 years old!
The size of the Sherman Tree is simply staggering:
- Height - 275 feet
- Circumference - 102 feet
- Maximum Diameter - 36 feet
With a diameter of almost 7 feet, the largest branch in the Sherman
Sequoia tree is larger than most entire
trees of other species!
The Giant Sequoia trees are among America's most loved natural treasures. Some
of these huge trees had already been growing when Christ walked upon the earth
some 2,000 years ago! If you ever have the opportunity to visit Sequoia
National Forest and Giant Sequoia National Monument, you will surely
be amazed!
