Grandma Parker's Shoe
![My grandma's shoe.](pic-of-the-day/grandmas-shoe.jpg)
The mantle in my mom's living room is covered with pictures, knick-knacks and
many other items, and on the right-hand side sits one that is very special to our
family: one of my grandma's old shoes.
Although Grandma Parker
went to spend eternity with the Lord when I was just a youngster, I still have
plenty of wonderful memories of her. She lived a simple life that was dedicated to loving
and caring for her family and helping anyone who happened to be in need. Her
entire existence on this planet was spent being more concerned about the welfare and happiness of
others than her own.
Grandma was a small woman who had a big heart, and when she passed away her tiny
feet left some mighty big shoes to fill - and one of them is on permanent
display in mom's living room. It sits there above the fireplace for all to see,
the sole still covered with the dirt and chicken manure that she "picked up" so
many years ago as she went about the tasks of living her life and making the
lives of others better.
That small, dirty shoe filled with flowers serves as a constant reminder of
Grandma Parker's simple life and abundant love - a single artifact from a long
life of service to her God and to her loved ones.
