The Holston Mountain Boys

(L-R) Gene Boyd - Josh Leonard - Bobby Love - Ray Johnson - Ronnie Rasnick
Today's picture features one of the most-loved Bluegrass groups in the
Tri-Cities area, The Holston Mountain Boys. Most people are now aware
that Bristol is the official Birthplace Of Country
Music, but relatively few
know that this region also has a very large and thriving community of Bluegrass musicians
and fans. But thanks to wonderful venues such as the Carter Family
Fold, the
Pickin' Porch, and the stage under the Country Music mural on State
Street,
that's changing fast.
One of my favorite Bluegrass venues is the one downtown on State Street. Every Tuesday evening
during the summer, the stage comes alive with local Bluegrass groups who really
enjoy what they do and do it very well. The Holston Mountain Boys grace the
stage often, including last evening when this photo was taken.
Everyone in the region with even a passing interest in Bluegrass is familiar
with the names Gene Boyd,
Ray Johnson, Bobby Love, Ronnie Rasnick and Josh Leonard. Come on down to State
Street some warm Tuesday night and if you're lucky you just might see them up on
the stage!
