Being a blogger is one serious task. It’s challenging and scary because there are great chances of not succeeding. One might think that blogging is all about ‘writing’. How can someone fail at that? As long as you can put words together and think in a language, you can be a blogger, right?
Well, not really. Let’s take a look at the popular myths that affect the success of a blog and a blogger:
1 – Blogging Is Only About Writing
This is the first myth. No. Absolutely not.
Blogging is not just about writing, and more so, it’s certainly not about writing random things. Blogging is about connecting with people and sharing experiences. It’s supposed to be real people connecting to real people for any reason – common interests, ideas, services, products, technology etc. This is the nuance of blogging and one cannot afford to forget it.
2 – Writing Is Easy
After presuming that blogging is only about writing, people go further beyond and think that writing is far easier!
Sure! If you want to write about how you flossed your teeth, what you ate for lunch, then sure! You can ‘write’ easily. But this is simply insignificant material of no relevance to the reader or anyone browsing by. It’s pointless trivia! Be careful not to fall into the trap of thinking that a blog is a personal diary.
3 – Once I Write, People Will Read
And that’s your third myth. People think writing great content is enough. But it frankly isn’t! If you are writing great content, you also need to share it around. Unless you share and promote your work, it doesn’t matter how good or bad a content writer you are, you simply will not have readers. And if you do not have readers, why are you writing a blog?
You have to go to your reader. There are loads of people out there who would love your work. The only distance between you and them is that you haven’t reached out to them. Go ahead and do that.
4 – Bloggers Blog Alone
This is the other myth that newcomers generally have. The thought that they are alone or that they mustn’t share their readers with other bloggers is incorrect. This is because bloggers cater to two sections:
- The people who read blogs
- The people who are interested in niche content
If you are a blogger, you can certainly join people from your domain of work or blogging and reach out to interested people together. Things like guest blogging work extremely well, because on the blogosphere, everyone is a co-associate.
5 – The “I Can Blog Whenever I feel Like; I Don’t Have To Be Regular Attitude”
This is the most detrimental thought for your blog. Most bloggers lose their readers because they don’t post on a regular schedule.
Do you know why readers read your blog? They do so, because it interests them. Now, once they are on floor, if you’re not providing them the things they seek, why should they hang around? Pre-plan your blog posts if need be, but make it a habit to be regular.
