All children need help and encouragement during their educational years, especially young children. As a parent spending time with your children and finding new fun ways to learn can only help them in the long run. Luckily for all parents there are some excellent sites out there that can help you help your child.
Most of these sites are free but a couple are subscriptions sites but are definitely worth their money in my experience. So let’s have a look at five of the best educational websites for children.
1 – Reading Eggs
Reading eggs is a site that helps children learn to read. It is designed for children from the ages 4 to 7. The beauty of reading eggs is that it allows children to progress at their own rate offering rewards and incentives as they progress.
Reading eggs consists of 120 lessons and uses both phonics and sight words to help reinforce what they learn at home and at school.
Reading eggs offer a 14 day trial and you can also look at some sample lessons via their website. A yearly subscription after the trial period is £39.95.
I have a 4 year old son who absolutely loves this site and is constantly asking to go on it and we have noticed in the 3-4 months he has been using the site his reading ability has improved. I would recommend you at least try the 14 day trial.
2 – Kids Know It
This is a very popular site with a wealth of activities for children to do including movies, music, worksheets and games that will keep your child entertained for hours while they learn at the same time.
The site is designed to be easy to use for young users and tries to cover a variety of subjects to cater for as many different likes as possible. Some include:
- astronomy
- animals
- biology
- dinosaurs
- geography
- geology
- history
- math
- memory
- spelling
All these categories have worksheets and games for children to do.
This is another site that has been around a number of years and offers free educational tools to children. The site caters to most ages from 4-13 and has a variety of sections all sorted by the age they are appropriate for.
There are also a number of interactive courses in a variety of categories that finish with exercises.
There is also a link to the E-learning for life website which is designed for older children and teenagers to learn basic skills like office or grammar and leadership skills.
4 – BBC Schools
The BBC schools website has a host of material on it that is freely available including things for parents to help their children, resources and ideas, teacher resources, games and so much more.
The site allows you to enter as a student and select either primary or secondary school subjects to help your child learn. Activities are sorted by age range and are easy to find and interactive to keep your child’s attention.
5 – StarFall
Starfall is another website that is designed to help children with their reading using phonics. This is particularly useful for children just starting to learn to read. The exercises are fun and interactive allowing your child to learn while making it fun.
