Forget the two o’clock sleepy time feeling, how do you deal with the constant hunger pains? Snacking is something we all do, all the time, and it’s an easy way to put on pounds.
When you are trying to achieve a weight goal or just want to stay healthy, try these options for snacks instead of your normal chips and candy:
– Fruit – Although it is a carb, it is a good carb and you should try to eat two and half cups of it a day. Mix it up every day to give yourself a variety, but avoid adding sugar or dipping it into any spread.
– Veggies – Go crazy and consume as much as you want, if it’s in its raw form. Consuming a large amount of veggies will give you that full feeling without that bloated look.
– Nuts and Seeds – There is protein in nuts and seeds, so they will help you feel fuller longer. Although high in fat, they are a healthy fat, but you should not consume these every day or in high quantities.
– Protein Shakes – Look for ones low in calories and sugar, and no sugar added is the best. Try Bolthouse Farms Berry Boost, which has 5 days worth of vitamin C – and no sugar!
– Oatmeal – A bowl of instant oatmeal is a great snack filled with fiber, and it will curb your hunger for a few hours.
– Cereal – Dry cereal is a great mouth muncher, if you stay away from the ones that are filled with sugar. Kashi has great cereals that are low in calories and sugar but will deliver that snack crunch you are after.
– Rice Cakes – Although low in flavor, they are also low in fat and calories. Add some of your cut up fruit or veggies on top (like avocadoes and tomatoes, or strawberries and kiwis) for some filling flavor.
– Whole Wheat Crackers – Triscuits are low in salt and oil, and can be paired with a slice of fruit, meat, or cheese to fill you up. Be wary of other crackers that contain a lot of salt or oils.
– Sweet Potato Tortilla Chips – If you have to have chips, look for this option. It is low in fat, low in carbs and high in fiber and Vitamin A.
– Air Popped Popcorn – Popcorn is a great snack, if it is not the microwaved bags. Buy yourself an air popper to make your own popcorn and sprinkle on seasonings, not oil and salt, for some great added taste.
– Pretzels – A great snack that is low in salt and carbs. In 20 pretzels alone there is only 120 calories!
– Greek Yogurt – Thicker, and doubled in protein, this stuff will trick you into thinking you had a second lunch!
Remember, everything is in moderation, so even out your snacking throughout the days to be balanced and healthy and you will be amazed with the results!
