It is very easy to practice your own pest control in and around your home. It is one of the most important responsibilities that you will have to hone for your own home. And it will save you tons of money in the long run. You might be afraid of all the skills you may have to learn and the study that you will need to do, but when you learn the know-how and get the right pest control products and instruments at your disposal then you can take care of nearly any problem.
When you first start investing in the pesticides and instruments needed and other products you will use, you should check your needs and what kinds of pests you have around your home and need to control. It’s best to study your particular insect problem and to check what kinds of products will be best to use against them. The two best methods of treating pests is the use of dusts and liquids. Dusts work very well because they work against their nature because crawling insects will dwell in small and tight spaces. Using dusts and dusters you can treat these tight spots, and with just one ‘puff’ you can control and treat these areas. You cannot and should not treat areas by hand however. You will need to invest into a good duster, one that looks like a bulb with a long needle type of instrument to use. The needle will help reach areas that you cannot reach.
When using any hand duster, it is best to handle the duster in a way that will let the bulk of the dust material rest on the bottom away from the needle portion of the duster. You will shake the duster bulb up and down which will agitate the dust. The heavy, dense particles will be broken up and the light airy dust will float around on the upper portion of the bulb. This is when you will put the tip of the needle portion into a crack, nook, or other area that you want to treat. You will squeeze the bulb and the airy dust will blow into the area. The light dust will penetrate an area very easily. You should follow all directions and use caution when you handle the duster.
Liquid based pest control is pretty good for developing preventative measures and general protection for your home from many different kinds of pests, mostly the crawling variety but there are some that can be used against flying insects as well. If and when you choose to use a liquid based spray, make sure to read the reviews and purchase a good sprayer. The best ones include a brass nozzle since they are more durable and give better control over the spray and it’s area of effect.
There are several different kinds of pesticides you can use. Residual pesticides work by not irritating any pests that will move about it and they will become treated. This way insects will be ‘encouraged’ to move through the treated area and they will end up ‘voluntarily’ treating themselves. There are other pesticides like diatomaceous earth that will irritate insects and ‘bug’ them. These liquid pesticides are best used on the perimeters of your home to ‘immunize’ your home against many different pests. This should be sprayed around your home’s exterior foundation and along the bases of all doors. You should also always follow any directions printed on the label of the products you use. This goes for any and all products or instruments you will be using.
