I have been building and maintaining websites for almost 10 years now, and during that time I’ve learned that the two most important things that a webmaster has to deal with are choosing a good web hosting company and a good domain registrar. I thought this would be a good time to put in my 2 cents worth regarding my experiences with various domain registrars.
Like most people just starting out in the early 1990’s, I registered my very first domain name with Network Solutions. At that time their prices were sky high, but that’s who most everyone went with nonetheless for various reasons. I quickly found their customer service to be lacking, so when it came time to renew that domain name I decided to shop around and try another domain registrar. To be honest, I can’t even recall which one it was, but I do recall that their prices were lower but their customer service was even worse than what I had experienced with Network Solutions.
A few months after switching to the new registrar, I heard about Godaddy.com. I decided to give them a try, and I haven’t looked back since. I have always found their customer service to be top notch, their user interface easy to navigate, and their prices competitive. Yes, there are cheaper domain registrars out there, but given my complete satisfaction with Godaddy I would never even consider switching just to save a couple of bucks per domain.
I have registered hundreds of domain names with Godaddy over the years, and during that time I have only had ONE issue with their billing department, and it was fixed after making a 5 minute phone call. I have had maybe 3 or 4 technical issues with them as well, but they too were quickly resolved in an extremely professional manner.
While I can’t vouch for their other services such as hosting and email (I’m a VERY satisfied Hostgator customer), I can say with 100% certainty that you’ll probably never find a better domain registrar than Godaddy.com. And that is my 2 cents worth!
