So, the Summer is nearly upon us and you still haven’t decided on your next holiday destination. Greece is on your radar, but the choice of Islands and Mainland resorts is making your decision difficult? This is a problem many of us who are considering a European break will have had over the years.
Greece offers so much as a vacation destination and most of the main tourist resorts offer sun, sea and sand in abundance. But dig a little deeper and you will find that certain islands offer just a little bit more than many of the others.
These are our top six picks for a Greek Island vacation in 2012 including some old favorites and a couple that offer something a little bit different.
1- Santorini
If you are looking to spend your honeymoon on an exotic Greek island, Santorini is the place to be. This place is mostly known for being frequented by honeymooners from all across the globe and they have every arrangement to spoil you from inside out! This is not a very quiet place, but then it is not an overcrowded place as well; you just need to pick your hotel, spend quality time with your hubby and check out Fira when you think you need more adrenaline rush. Fira is actually a very small town that is located at a 820 ft drop on the western side.
2- Zakynthos
There are some travel aficionados is out there who love to go to places that have absolutely nothing (and in a way everything). Zakynthos is a just such a Greek island. This place has diverse scenery and it is strictly for the trigger-happy people. Well of course once you are done with clicking, you can go check out the underwater caves, indulge in some snorkeling and scuba diving, are simply watch sea turtles walk by you on white sandy beaches.
3 – Mykonos
Okay, here they have an ethical system that evaluates the pursuit of pleasure as the highest good! This is actually more of a party island and it’s going to offer you an eclectic mix of natural beauty and hedonism. This island is covered with whitewashed buildings sitting so close to each other that they appear to form a maze – you can find absolutely anything in that maze if you have the right bent of mind to look for it!
4 – Skopelos
This is again one solitary island strictly for the solitary people! There’s a lot to be absorbed but very little to be paid for. This island is also going to give you a sense of timelessness. There are two beaches that are going to cater to your inner senses in Skopelo: Panormos and Milia.
5 – Kefalonia
This is probably the most famous beach in Greece; made famous by the movie Capt. Corelli’s Mandolin. This island has everything you might think of. There is an abundance of natural beauty, traditional villages, turquoise blue seas and of course all modern amenities (and that includes exotic hospitality).
6 – Milos
This island is located on the Agean sea, and it is at this place that the statue of Aphrodite was found. Milos has more than 70 incredible beaches to choose from, and the good news is that almost all of them are within walking distance from each other. If you haven’t yet explored the myriad ways in which nature works, you’ve got to check out this place!
