A visit to our nation’s capitol should be on every American’s “bucket list”. Every time I return to DC and stroll the sidewalks that so many of our country’s leaders past and present have trod I get a humble, yet proud feeling welling up from deep inside my chest. IMO, there is no other seat of government on earth that can compare with Washington, DC!
The amazing buildings and monuments that grace the city of Washington are beautiful and inspiring any time of year, but they are absolutely stunning in the spring. The sights and smells of the cherry blossoms will team up with the warm, relaxing mid-Atlantic sun to delight your senses and leave you wondering if you have in fact found Heaven on earth.
Although the sidewalks of Washington are awash with visitors during the springtime, there are always plenty of opportunities to find a little corner of “Heaven” and enjoy it all to yourself.
When Pierre L’Enfant drafted the design of Washington in 1791, he surely could not have forseen that his “creation” would eventually end up being home to the most powerful set of rulers on the planet. And it’s equally unlikely that he realized at the time just how much fun it would be to visit the de facto capitol of the free world during the height of springtime!
