Mom's Flowers
Today's "Picture Of The Day" is actually several pictures. My
sister-in-law put together this wonderful series featuring my mom working in her flower
garden along with a few snapshots showcasing the fruits of her labors.
Like my dad, mom always did enjoy watching things grow. She carefully
plants some seeds, bulbs or young flower plants, then waits with anticipation until they start
to grow and flourish. She tends to her growing flowers with love and undying
attention, making sure they have everything they need in order to survive and
have the best chance at a fruitful life - correcting their problems, feeding
them, nurturing them, loving them... just like she does with her loved ones.
Mom spent her entire life, including her childhood years, taking care of others.
As a girl, she helped take care of her brothers and sisters, some of who became quite
ill. When the time came, she helped care for her ailing mom, dad and husband.
And of course she raised eight children and several grandchildren while working
a full-time job and keeping the household in order.
In a very real way, mom's "flowers" have always been the people she
loved. She enjoyed taking care of them, even in the bad times. It was her duty,
her call in life... the reason God put her on this earth. She was proud when her
loved ones flourished and reached their full potential, and heartbroken when
they didn't.
Today, mom's life has come full circle. She has taken care of those who needed
it. She has raised her children and grandchildren. She has made those who were
dying as comfortable as possible and let them know they were loved... and that
if they knew the Lord the best days were still to come.
Mom has been a good and faithful servant both to her family and her creator. Now
she tends her real flowers, spending countless hours in the yard pulling
weeds, watering, feeding, nurturing... The more things change the more they stay
the same!
