A Beautiful Punta Gorda, Florida Sunset
Keith Ryan.
You can see the occasional spectacular sunset virtually anywhere you might
happen to be on the face of the planet, but the wonderful state of Florida sure
seems to have more than its fair share. Today's picture features a fine example
of those famous Florida sunsets from the small southwestern Florida town of
Punta Gorda.
Punta Gorda, the only city in Florida's Charlotte County, sits quietly
about 100 miles south of Tampa on the Peace River (which feeds into Charlotte
Harbor). The friendly people and lack of high-rise buildings gives Punta Gorda
the charm of a small rural town.
While his kids and their friends were playing in Ghilcrest Park, photographer
Keith Ryan noticed that the sunset was absolutely stunning (which is normal for
Punta Gorda). As always, he had his camera ready and waiting in the car so he
took it out and started walking around, seeking an unobstructed view of the
setting sun.
When he looked up he saw the rim of the basketball goal hanging
right over the sun as if it had passed through the basket - a great shot in more
ways than one! He lined up the shot and snapped off a real gem!
