A Toad's-Eye View Of Some Toadstools
Click photo to enlarge
The mushrooms growing in southwestern Virginia this year are the
largest I have ever seen, and they are growing all over our back
yard. Maybe we should call this the "Year of the Mushroom"!
I have featured several photos of mushrooms in the past, but I
thought it would be interesting to take a look at a couple of giant
toadstools from a toad's point of view because I wonder just what
they think of the whoppers that are growing virtually
everywhere this year!
It has actually been an unusual summer and fall in several ways. In
addition to the proliferation of mushrooms the size of which I had
never seen before, we also had bees building nests all over the yard
as well as every nook and cranny of our house. And while our
property always has more than its fair share of wildlife living on
it and passing through it, there seemed to be a larger than usual
population of snakes slithering around this summer!
Anyway, now I know what it's like to "look up" at a toadstool, and
the ones we have growing in our yard this year are quite a sight to
see!
