Whitetop Mountain Band At The Pickin' Porch
The Whitetop Mountain Band entertained the audience at last night's
Pickin Porch Show with
an extra helpin' of their wonderful mountain music. Their fine mixture of the
Old-Time and Bluegrass
styles with a little Country thrown in is among the best in the business, and
as always they put on a great show.
The Whitetop Mountain Band's roots grow deep into the better part of a century.
The Old-Time banjo style that Emily Spencer plays so well today - a style that
goes back at least to the Civil War era - was
passed down to her from some of the pioneering musicians of the early 20th
century. And now Emily's daughter Martha has developed into a fine singer and
multi-instrument musician in her own right. She is a very entertaining young
lady who really knows how to thrill an audience while having a great time
herself, and she certainly did both last night!
If you enjoy Old-Time and Bluegrass music, you're sure to have a great time when
the Whitetop Mountain Band is up on a stage. You won't have to look very hard or
wait too long to find them on one either. One of the region's most popular
groups, the Whitetop Mountain Band performs regularly at several local venues
including the Carter
Family Fold and the Pickin' Porch.
