State Capitol Building - Charleston, WV

Today's picture features a beautiful nighttime shot of the State Capitol
building in Charleston, West Virginia. Every time I travel I-77 through
West Virginia I pass the Capitol and tell myself some day I'll stop and take a
picture of it. Well, Mr. Pugh beat me to it, and he did a wonderful job
of capturing the architectural details that so easily distinguish the Capitol building
from the rest of the city.
Charleston is a vibrant city that sits on the banks of the
Kanawha River as it winds
its way northward to meet with the Ohio. Over the millennia the Kanawha has etched valleys and gorges through the Appalachian
Mountains - and it left us with a valley that is just wide enough to hold this great American city.
When most people think of West Virginia, coal mining is usually the first thing
that pops into their heads. But although West Virginia is indeed a leader in the
coal industry, there is a lot more to this beautiful state than
mining operations!
West Virginia's rugged mountains offer some of the nation's most stunning
scenery as well as a sportsman's paradise. The opportunities for white water
rafting, fishing,
hunting, hiking, camping and skiing are some of the best you'll find anywhere on
the planet and the friendly people of West Virginia will make you feel right at
home.
So the next time you're traveling through the Mountain State, why not stop and
spend a few days enjoying all that West Virginia has to offer? You just might
find out why they call it Wild, Wonderful West Virginia!
