Our Tree With The Gnarled Trunk
The past few days have been very busy for Cheria and me as we continue to clean
up along the bank of the creek that runs through our property. As we cut down
brush and weeds we keep discovering things that are quite interesting that have
been hidden from view until now. One of these discoveries is the gnarled old
tree trunk featured in today's picture.
I don't know what kind of tree this is, but it sits atop several "trunks", each
of which is firmly rooted in the creek bank. Perhaps this amazing tree was hit
with some type of disease that caused it to grow in such a weird manner. It's
really hard to tell what happened to it. But what we do know is that several of
the trunks are dead and a couple of them are in a deep state of decay. Still,
the tall tree that rises high into the sky above the trunks is not only alive -
it appears
to be flourishing. They say the will to survive is incredible, and this hardy
tree makes an excellent example.
We still have quite a bit of work to do along our creek, so it's hard to tell
just what we might find next. Every day is a real adventure because we never
know what's lying behind the scrub brush...but we love finding out!
