As always, this year's Virginia Highlands Festival had
something for everyone to enjoy. The
Barter Theatre
parking lot and the grounds of the
Martha
Washington Inn were jam-packed with vendors offering everything
from handmade candy to many varieties of arts & crafts. And of course
there was plenty of my personal favorite:
live music!
One of the most memorable images of Abingdon during Festival time is
seeing the
Abingdon Carriage Company at work. On each and every day of
these two hot August weeks you'll see their familiar horse and
carriage taking Abingdon's visitors on a slow-paced and every
enjoyable buggy ride through Abingdon's historic section. These
carriage rides are extremely popular because they offer an
opportunity to slow down and take a break from all the exciting
festival activities and see historic Abingdon from a new
perspective.
If you have never taken one of these delightful carriage rides, head
on over to the Martha Washington Inn on your next visit to Abingdon.
Weather permitting, you'll probably find the Abingdon Carriage
Company's horse and buggy waiting for you to hop aboard and
literally take a ride through history!
