Marion, Virginia's Hungry Mother State Park is home to one of the
country's most scenic lakes: Hungry Mother Lake. This beautiful lake is nestled
in a valley between two mountain ranges, giving you the feeling that you're
somewhere out in the wilderness...but in fact you're actually just three miles
from the Marion town limits!
At just 108 acres in size, Hungry Mother Lake isn't terribly large, but it
offers many fun activities such as swimming on a white-sand beach, fishing, or
spending some time simply enjoying the water in a canoe, rowboat or paddleboat
(available for hourly rental).
In addition to the lake activities, there are also lots of fun and interesting
things for you to see and do during your visit to Hungry Mother Park. There are numerous campsites
(some with electrical hookups) and a large number of private cabins that are
fully equipped with all the modern conveniences available for a nominal rental
fee.
There are also miles of scenic hiking trails, picnic areas (with and without log
shelters), and even a small island that hosts an amphitheatre where children's
plays and nature lectures are given. And Hungry Mother Restaurant offers great
meals that are sure to please any palate!
If you enjoy the outdoors, or simply want a beautiful place in the mountains to
get away from it all, a few days at Hungry Mother Park is just what you're
looking for!
