Janette Carter & Tim White
Today's picture features two people who have spent most of their adult lives
promoting Bluegrass and Old-Time music in our region: The one and only
Janette Carter
and the multi-talented Tim
White.
Keeping a solemn promise made to her dying father
A.P. Carter that she
would do whatever she could to help preserve and promote the Carter Family's
Old-Time music, Janette established the
Carter Family Fold
in Hiltons, VA in
1979...and ever since opening day Poor Valley has come alive with that sweet
Carter Family sound virtually every Saturday night! Janette Carter is a
wonderful lady, and she loves passing on the legacy of A.P., Sara and Maybelle
Carter to the younger generations.
Tim White is a man of many talents: Master banjo picker, singer, songwriter, artist & painter, radio
disc jockey, host of the popular
Pickin' Porch Show...the
list goes on and on! Everyone who is familiar with the local Bluegrass music
scene knows Tim and everything he does to help promote this wonderful music.
Janette and Tim have been friends for a very long time, so they were happy to
oblige when I asked them for permission to take their picture Saturday night at
the Carter Fold. You can visit Janette there every Saturday night - she kicks
off the show promptly at 7:30pm. You're also invited to join Tim every Thursday
evening at 7:00 for the Pickin' Porch Show at the Bristol Mall.
