Josh & Rachel Johnson At The Pickin' Porch

Today's picture features Josh and
Rachel Johnson, two of the most talented siblings I have
ever seen. This amazing young duo grew up in a household that was
filled to the brim with the sights and sounds of Bluegrass music. In
fact, virtually everyone in
their
family plays an instrument of one type or another!
I have seen Josh Johnson play the mandolin on numerous occasions,
and he plays it as well as anyone on the planet. But on tonight's
Pickin' Porch
Show he came on stage with a guitar in his hands. I expected to
see him just strum along playing backup rhythm for the rest of the
band, but it quickly became apparent that he plays the guitar just
as well as the mandolin!
The show had barely gotten underway when Josh began taking one
guitar break after another, each one just as flawless and beautiful
as the ones before it. This young man sure takes his music
seriously, and you can tell he really enjoys pickin'.
When it comes to playing a fiddle, Rachel is in a class by herself.
She can effortlessly command her fiddle to produce some simply
amazing sounds, ranging all the way from a soft whisper when she's
backing up the rest of a band to the quick and powerful strokes
required to saw out a barn-burner. I'm always amazed at how Rachel
can take full command of a song, then step back and fiddle with just
enough volume to make everyone else sound great.
But Josh and Rachel aren't just accomplished musicians. They both
can sing right along with the best of them, and their brother/sister
harmony is just about as close to perfect as you're likely to
find. Tonight's Pickin' Porch audience got to hear
plenty of their flawless pickin' and singin'!
