South Holston Lake
Today's picture features a winter-time view of scenic
South Holston Lake.
I snapped off this shot yesterday while standing on top of South Holston Dam, a
massive earthen dam constructed by the Tennessee Valley Authority in order to
control the yearly flooding of the South Holston River and provide hydroelectric
power for the region.
South Holston Lake's beautiful mountain setting makes it one of the most
beautiful bodies of water in the world. Although fishing, swimming and boating
on the lake are primarily summer-time activities, the beautiful scenery of South
Holston can be enjoyed year round. The area received a modest snowfall a couple
of days ago, and as you can see the mountain ridges in the distance were still
covered with it during our visit.
The Mountain Empire is home to several beautiful lakes, many of which
offer spectacular mountain views and plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy. If
you live in this region or plan to vacation here, be sure to visit South Holston
Lake or one of the other beautiful TVA lakes. You're sure to see some of the
country's most beautiful views - and the fishing, boating and swimming isn't bad
either!
