Smoking is one of the leading causes of the overall poor health and
sky-rocketing healthcare costs in the USA. It is also a leading contributor for
many other diseases and conditions that often cause people to pass away
prematurely.
Smoking:
- Increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes
- Causes cancers of the mouth, larynx, throat, esophagus, cervix and bladder
- Causes ulcers or makes them worse
- Causes chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
- Causes peripheral artery disease
- Causes expectant mothers to have babies with low birth weight
- Causes excessive bad breath and stained teeth
- Causes your clothing and hair to reek of cigarette smoke
- Causes others to want to avoid being near you
- Is VERY expensive
In short, if you make the decision to quit smoking you'll eliminate or reduce
the chances that you'll develop one or more of the above health conditions. Quitting
smoking will also make being around you more pleasant for others.
