Larry McPeak Singing At The Pickin' Porch
The roots of Bluegrass music run
deep throughout southwestern Virginia, and you'll find them branching out all
along The
Crooked Road. But you don't have to follow
Route 58 to find
super-talented Bluegrass pickers, singers and songwriters - there are many of
them in Virginia's Appalachian
Mountain region.
Today's picture features a local Bluegrass icon: Wytheville, Virginia's Larry
McPeak. Larry has been involved with Bluegrass music for most of his life.
He and his brothers Dewey and Mike have performed for years as the McPeak
brothers, bringing their finely honed family harmonies to life on stages that
span decades and thousands of miles. When you hear the McPeak Brothers, you
experience Bluegrass and Gospel music at its very best.
Although Larry still performs with his brothers from time to time, he spends
most of his time these days writing great songs and performing with
The VW Boys. Along
with Tim White
and Dave Vaught, Larry puts his all into each and every performance. He loves
Bluegrass, and he loves singin' and pickin' - and it really shows when he's up
on a stage.
The VW Boys took to the stage at the
Pickin' Porch last night, and Larry treated the audience to a solo
performance of one of the most beautiful Christmas songs I have ever heard - one
that he had recently penned himself: "God's Christmas Gift". His moving
performance had everyone sitting on the edge of their seats, holding their
breath so as not to miss a single word. It was definitely the highlight of an
excellent show!
If you have never seen the McPeak Brothers or the VW Boys perform, you owe it to
yourself to find out where they're playing and go see them. You're sure to have
a great time enjoying a performance by wonderful people who really love what
they do!
